The Great WorldCom Scandal
In 2005, Bernard Ebbers was sentenced to serve 25 years in a Lousiana federal prison. A civil action lawsuit required Ebbers and others involved to pay over 830,000 victims a settlement totaled at $6 billion (Bernard Ebbers Biography, N.D.)
Scott Sullivan also was sentenced to prison in 2005, but to only 5 years. His cooperation with law enforcement and defense that he was pressured by his boss at trial earned him a lesser sentence. He also sold his mansion in Boca Raton, Florida, to settle a lawsuit (Ex-CFO Scott Sullivan, 2011).
